How to Fix Roblox Error 517

Roblox error 517 is a common error that usually resolves itself after a few minutes. Unfortunately, this isn't always the case: that's probably why you're reading this guide.
More often than not, you'll be getting this error for one of the following reasons:
- You're trying to connect to a server that has already closed, or is about to close.
- Your account hasn't yet been disconnected from a previous visit (e.g. due to lag).
- Roblox is temporarily preventing you from reconnecting due to too many attempts.
Below you can find a list of potential problems and solutions. Because there are multiple reasons why error 517 can occur, we recommend that you try each one of these in order until your issue is fixed.
Wait 20 Minutes
It's not what anybody wants to hear - 20 minutes of no Roblox can seem like a long time! - but this is the most likely fix to error 517.
Because error 517 can occur when your account hasn't properly disconnected from a previous visit, waiting 20 minutes gives enough time for Roblox to kick your account from its previous session (as this is when Roblox will kick a user for inactivity).
You can try to connect again after 10 minutes, but if you try to connect too often, you may encounter a temporary limit on connecting (which is an entirely different error in its own right!).
Try to Join via the Play Button
If you aren't already, make sure you are trying to connect to connect to the game via the green Play ( ) button highlighted below:
If you join via the green Play button, Roblox will connect you to an available server that doesn't have any potential problems (e.g. it won't be too full).
If you still get the error after trying to connect via the green Play button, then you can be sure that something is up with your account or installation and not the server you're trying to connect to.
Reinstall Roblox
We recommend reinstalling Roblox if you have tried both of the below and are still experiencing error 517:
- Waited 20 minutes before retrying.
- Tried to join via the Play ( ) button.
