Anime Vanguards continues to get new updates, which add or change units in ways that completely shift the meta around. Because of this, both new and old characters find their way into the current meta, and figuring out which ones are worth using can be difficult.
To help you out, below is a handy tier list ranking all of the meta units from best to worst. Again, these are all of the meta units, so they're all technically "good", but those in lower tiers fill smaller niches.

S Tier - Currently the Best Units in AV
These are currently considered to be some of the best units in the game, and they could easily be substituted for some of the A Tier units depending on what content you're doing.

Elastic Captain (Cog 5th) | DPS | One of the best CC units with good damage as well |
Armored Mage (Requip) | Support | Very good buff unit |
Lich King (Ruler) | Utility | One of the best support units in the game, mainly due to its Caloric Stone ability |
Savior (Moonless) | Utility | Provides good utility, and his damage is respectable too (though far from the best at the moment) |
Divine General (Adaptation) | Utility | Great utility unit overall, and can stack a lot of damage with his signature memoria |
God (Standless) | CC | Hilariously good timestop ability whenever placed and decent support apart from that |
A Tier - Also Really Good
These are also really good units that can trade blows with those in the S Tier in terms of power and utility. Again, this is dependent on what modes you will be grinding.

Choy Jong En (Guild Leader) | Utility | Has potential to be really strong under the right circumstances |
Manipulator (Spider) | Utility | Strong utility and a solid unit to have in DoT teams |
Reaper (Scissors) | Utility | Really strong potential when paired with bleed units, like History's Strongest |
Agony Shinobi (Force) | Utility | Has potential to be strong with the right team |
Alocard (Vampire King) | CC | Pretty good support/CC unit and an okay DPS on top of that |

B Tier - Pretty Good
Characters in this tier are okay as well, but they are more game mode-dependent than the others, and they may need specific units/teams to prop them up.

C Tier - They're Decent
While the units in C Tier aren't bad, they do have niche use cases and are not as good overall as the other higher tier entries.
