Race is an often overlooked but actually very impactful aspect of your character in Grand Blue, as the most powerful ones can provide massive buffs both in and out of combat.
Since the character customization screen doesn't tell you what each race does until you have it equipped, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of each will help you determine if you should reroll or keep what you have.
To help you out, we've compiled this tier list of the best and worst races in the game:
- S Tier
Celestial
Half Fish
Cat-folk
Bunny-folk
- A Tier
Seafolk
Skyfolk
- B Tier
Dwarf
- C Tier
Long Armed
Long Legged
- D Tier
Human
S Tier - The Best Races
The races in this tier are generally considered to be among the best in the game, depending on the type of content you specialize in.
For instance, Half Fish is up here as it's an extremely good race for PVPing, especially in the open sea. It falls off a bit in PVE, which is what other S Tier races excel in at the cost of PVP performance.
Race | Roll Chance | Reason for Rating |
|---|---|---|
Celestial | 0.1% | The free pet and extra skill slot are huge |
Half Fish | 1% | All the benefits of Seafolk with an extra skill slot to spare, making it a strong PVP-centric race |
Cat-folk | 2% | Strong passives for PVE, especially with Sulong active and at night in general |
Bunny-folk | 2% | Great choice for PVP due to its mobility bonuses and speed, especially with Sulong active |
A Tier - Powerful Alternatives
The races in this tier are pretty good as well, though slightly outclassed in perks by those above them. If you get them, you don't necessarily need to reroll unless you have a lot to spare.
Race | Roll Chance | Reason for Rating |
|---|---|---|
Seafolk | 15% | Really good choice for PVPing, especially in the open sea |
Skyfolk | 5% | Great mobility and speed, making it a good option for grinding and can keep you relatively safe in any content |
B Tier - Decent Choices
B Tier picks are fine for some specific use cases, and you'll be fine if you get it while having limited rerolls left.
Race | Roll Chance | Reason for Rating |
|---|---|---|
Dwarf | 2% | Mainly only good for its bonus mining XP and resources, as its combat-related passives are just okay |
C Tier - Niche or Early Game
These races may be okay if you're still grinding at a low level, or you have a very niche build that can take advantage of their perks. They aren't particularly worth keeping if you still have lots of chances to roll.
Race | Roll Chance | Reason for Rating |
|---|---|---|
Long Armed | 5% | It increases your M1 range by 10%, which may have some very rare advantages, and it misses out on the bottom tier by being a variant of the basic Human |
Long Legged | 5% | Provides some extra dash range, but it's completely outclassed by Skyfolk |
D Tier - Just Bad
The races in this tier are just not worth keeping if you roll them, as you have a good chance of rerolling one that's actually useful for something.
Race | Roll Chance | Reason for Rating |
|---|---|---|
Human | 74% | It's the default race that only gives a skill slot |
