Fishing can be a great way to find various valuable items or even make some money in Slayers 2, but the game doesn't make it clear that you can do it to begin with, especially if you don't stumble into the relevant NPCs.
In this guide, we'll be showing you how to start fishing and provide you with tips on how to get better at it.
IMPORTANT: You must be at least level 45 to start fishing!

Getting a Fishing Permit
You will need at least 5,000 Wen for this, so grind some repeatable quests first if you don't have enough!
Before you can start fishing, you'll need to get a Fishing Permit. Head to Mistfall Harbor and make your way to the south of the Shrine. Specifically, head to the docks below, across the harbor at Forgotten Ruins.

There, you'll find an NPC named Dock Master Sofen. Speak with him and agree to help out to start the Earn a Fishing Permit quest.

The Permit Stamp you need is actually on the harbor at Forgotten Ruins. Swim straight across the water and you should see the gold Fishing Permit on top of a box before you even make it there.
Here's the exact location you need to go to:

Pick up the stamp and return to Dock Master Sofen to complete the quest and receive your Fishing Permit!
How to Start Fishing
Once you have a permit, walk over to Fisherman Jeso, who's only a few steps away from Dock Master Sofen. There, he'll offer to sell you two different rods:
- Basic Fishing Rod - 3,500 Wen
- Rare Fishing Rod - 10,000 Wen and 5 Golden Fish
You can also buy worms from him, which you will need to equip as bait if you want to start catching anything.

Once you have your bait equipped and fishing rod held, press M1 to cast your rod and wait until something bites. While fishing, you have to click and let go to keep the gray box in the moving square, which turns green while the box is in it.
Keep the square green and you'll eventually reel in either a random fish or various other items, including resources like Metal Scraps and Silk Thread.

Rod Progression
Rare Fishing Rod
To progress from the Basic to the Rare Fishing Rod, you'll need to catch 5 Golden Fish, which are rare and have a relatively low drop rate. It may take a few hours of fishing until you can upgrade from the first rod.
If you have a lot of Refinement Ore and Wen, it's highly recommended to upgrade your Basic Fishing Rod at Refiner Hagane in the Hidden Mist Village. This will give you a slight increase in luck.

The Rare Fishing Rod features much faster bite speed, better odds for rare catches, and a longer line.

Legendary Fishing Rod
To get a Legendary Fishing Rod, you first need to get lucky and catch one of each legendary fish, which are the following:
- Crustadon
- Krathulon

Once you have those two, return to Dock Master Sofen and speak with him. He'll have special lines of dialogue referring to the legendary fish you've caught, and he'll offer you a hint in exchange for 2,500 Wen.
Head to the rocks near the red bridge overlooking the docks, to the right of Mistfall Harbor's shrine. To help you out, here's an image of the exact location and the map for reference:

What you need to do here is fish five times using the Basic Fishing Rod without any bait equipped. After the fifth reel, you'll receive the Drowned Lure, which is a legendary bait that never runs out.

With the Drowned Lure, you can now speak with Legendary Fisherman Isao. He's a ghost that spawns on the rock ledges below the one where you got the lure from.
Isao only spawns at night, so wait until it gets dark before checking for him!

He'll give you a hint for his fishing rod's location in exchange for 2 Crustadons and 2 Krathulons. His hint will lead you somewhere near the Butterfly Estate.
Here's the exact location and map marker for reference:

Equip your best rod and the Drowned Lure, then start fishing. You'll know this is the right spot if you see a message on the left side of your screen saying: "This is the place. Twenty years I've watched it." after your first catch.
From here, simply keep fishing in that spot until you receive the Legendary Fishing Rod!

Additional Tips
While working towards the Legendary Fishing Rod, or even after the fact, you can also unlock a better bait shop than Jeso's worm store.
You can buy various types of bait from Baitmonger Nori in the Hidden Mist Village. He'll ask you to complete Shiori's Quest at the Butterfly Estate first. This will require the following resources:
- 10x Health Elixirs
- 10x Health Regen Elixirs
- 10x Stamina Regen Elixirs
Once that quest is done, you'll be able to purchase bait from Nori. He offers varying types of bait, including those that cost Robux. However, we only recommend buying Fish Heads using Wen.
