Roblox updates frequently, as the platform introduces new and improved features, better security, and compatibility for all devices that can run it. This is usually done automatically whenever you launch a game, but it can sometimes break and prevent you from playing anything.
In this guide, we'll go over all the steps you need to follow in order to manually update Roblox in the unlikely event that things go wrong on your end.
How to Update Roblox on PC (Windows & Mac)
If Roblox fails to update on PC, you'll have to reinstall it. There is no way to manually force an update, as the platform is supposed to do it on its own when you open any game.
We'll go over both Windows and Mac if there are any differences, so just follow along based on what device you have.
Uninstalling and reinstalling is the only method for Windows/Mac, but don't worry! Installing Roblox again is extremely easy to do.
Step 1. Uninstall Roblox
Windows Version
First, press the Windows button on the bottom left corner of your screen (or wherever it is in your taskbar).
Next, type "add or remove programs" on the search bar up top, then click on the best match, which should be the same text:
This will open a new window showing your installed apps. In the search bar below "Apps > Installed apps", type "Roblox".
Then, click the three dots to the right of "Roblox Player for User" and select "Uninstall". If your computer shows another pop-up message after that, confirm by pressing "Uninstall" again.
Mac Version
If you have Roblox installed on a Mac, first open the Finder. This is usually on the lower left corner of your taskbar.
Next, click "Applications" and scroll down until you find Roblox.
Once you've found Roblox, you can either drag it to your trash bin or simply right click it and press "Move to bin" to get the same result.
Step 2. Download Roblox Again
From this point forward, the steps are the same for both Windows and Mac.
You'll now have to redownload Roblox by either visiting the official download page or opening literally any game through your browser. The Microsoft Store is an option too, but is less convenient.
For example, here's 99 Nights in the Forest's game page open in a browser. Upon clicking the blue play button, you'll be given a prompt to download Roblox. Click it to get the installer.
Step 3. Reinstalling Roblox
Once you've downloaded the installer, navigate to the Downloads folder in your computer. Then, double click the Roblox Player Installer that you just downloaded.
This should automatically install an updated version of Roblox in the background. Once it's done, it'll open the Roblox app on its own.
If you downloaded Roblox through a game page like in our example above, then you'll immediately be taken to that game as well. In our case, the newly-updated Roblox automatically opened 99 Nights in the Forest's page:
How to Update Roblox on Android
On Android, updating Roblox is only done through the Play Store. First, open the Play Store app on your phone.
Then, search for "Roblox". If you're running an older version of the platform, then you should see the "Update" button opposite the Roblox icon. Simply tap it to start updating Roblox.
If it shows the "Play" button and you're still experiencing issues with the platform, your best option is to simply uninstall Roblox. You can reinstall it by following the same steps you just followed above.
How to Uninstall Roblox on Android
To uninstall Roblox on an Android device, simply look for it in your home screen or App Drawer. Next, tap and hold the icon until a menu pops up, then press the "Uninstall" button.
How to Update Roblox on iPhone or iPad (iOS)
If you are experiencing issues with the platform on iOS (e.g. it's telling you to upgrade), first open the App Store app in your device.
Next, search for "Roblox" and check whether it says "Open" or "Update". If it's the latter, simply tap the "Update" button to start downloading the latest version of Roblox.
If you're still experiencing issues despite having the latest version of Roblox, then you'll have to uninstall it and install it again by following the same steps above.
How to Uninstall Roblox on iOS
To uninstall Roblox on an iPhone or iPad, simply look for it in your home screen and tap and hold the app's icon. Then, tap the "Remove App" option in the menu that pops up.
