The Fire Essence is a valuable material that you'll need in order to unlock the powerful Dragon Talon fighting style. In this guide, we'll go over all the steps you need to follow in order to get one, and a few tips to make sure you don't lose it!
Where to Get Fire Essence
To get a Fire Essence, you must first travel to the Haunted Castle island in the Third Sea. There, head to the left side of the island and run straight to the large mausoleum in the graveyard:
Inside, you'll find the Death King standing beside a pile of bones on the ground.
Speak with him and he'll offer to give you a "Random Surprise" in exchange for 50 Bones. This has a very small chance of giving you a Fire Essence, and you'll have to keep buying Random Surprises from him until you get one.
If you're running low on Bones, you can kill enemies on the Haunted Castle island for more. They have a relatively high drop rate, and you should be able to get enough for a Random Surprise with just a few kills.
What's the Fire Essence's Drop Chance?
The Fire Essence has a drop rate of roughly 3%, so you'll likely burn through hundreds of bones before you can get one.
While the other potential Random Surprise items don't have exact drop rates, here's what you can expect to get while rolling for it:

How to Get Fire Essence Without Death King
Unfortunately, there is no way to get the Fire Essence without gambling with the Death King's surprises. Your best bet is to grind a ton of bones before you start rolling just so you can keep going for longer before you have to find more.
What to Do With the Fire Essence
Once you get a Fire Essence, you must run straight back to Uzoth at the Dragon Dojo on Hydra Island. You can hand him the Fire Essence by speaking with him, even if you don't have enough to meet Dragon Talon's other requirements just yet.
You WILL lose the Fire Essence if the following happens before you reach him:
- You die by any means
- You log out of the game or get disconnected
Once you've given Uzoth the Fire Essence, you don't need to roll for another one anymore. You can just come back later once you've met the required mastery levels, cash, and fragments to learn his fighting style.
