S Tier - The Absolute Best
The rods in this tier are all fantastic grinding tools that you can use for pretty much anything, especially when paired with some of the best enchantments in the game. They also have the added bonus of (mostly) being aesthetically pleasing.
Rod Name | Reason for Rank |
|---|---|
Olympian Godbreaker | Absolutely amazing rod, especially with min-maxed enchantment combinations. |
MiguRod | Insanely good stats and abilities. Just awesome overall. |
Mythical Rod | Good for early moneymaking, and it still has uses at high level, especially with enchantments. |
Spirit of the Forest | Really good mutations and stats. |
Jack-o-Blazer | Incredible stats and infinite weight. Its passives are good too. |
Cupid's Bow | Great stats and ability. It also has high value mutations with high chances. |
Cupid's Embrace | Great stats and abilities, especially with other users of the same rod nearby. |
Dusekkar Rod | Really good overall stats and passives. |
Bloomspire: Blooming Splendor | Incredible stats, mutation, and passives. |
Blade of Glorp | Good grinding rod for high level players who can control it. |
Seraphic Rod | Just great overall, nothing much else to say about it. |
North Pole | Extremely good passives and good stats overall. |
Elder Mossripper | Very lucrative mutations with high chances, and really good stats on top of that. |
Poseidon's Lance | Versatile and powerful rod/spear. |
Eidolon Rod | Incredibly fast rod with a decent mutation. |
Chrysalis | An amazing rod for moneymaking. |
Plaguereaver | Insanely good and hilariously easy to use. |
Hades' Soul-Scythe | Extremely high stats and really good set of passive abilities. |
Tryhard Rod | One of the absolute best rods, but requires a specific set of enchantments or immense skill to use consistently. |
Ruinous Oath | Really good if the user is also good. |
Verdant Oath | Very good rod overall, especially with its mutations. |
Castbound | Very good rod with some specific use cases where it really shines. |
Astraeus Serenade | Really good stats, mutations, and other passive abilities. It also has a sick aesthetic. |
Requiem | Really good passives and high stats overall. |
Dead Man's Rod | Amazing grinding rod with essentially guaranteed mutations (all good value) |
SOULREAPER | Another amazing rod for grinding due to its massive stats and long list of useful passives. |
Masterline Rod | Great rod overall, especially with its increased shiny/sparkling rates. |
Fabulous Rod | Really good passives and good stats to accompany them. |
A Tier - Great Alternatives
The ones in A Tier are all strong alternatives if you don't have the top rods. With the right enchantments, some of them may even be considered S Tier as well, though that comes with a lot of min-maxing and luck.
Rod Name | Reason for Rank |
|---|---|
Jinglestar Rod | Really good stats and perks for a free rod. |
Cerebra | Pretty good stats, and certain enchantments make it great for grinding. |
Boreal Rod | Great rod for early game players. |
Spooky Rod | Great stats and really good mutations. |
Santa's Miracle Rod | Really good stats and mutations for all levels. |
Kings Rod | Amazing stats for its price, though it doesn't have special mutations of its own. |
Silly Fun Happy Rod | Incredibly silly, but really good if you can use it properly. |
Voyager Rod | Good stats and ability hampered by its low lure speed. |
Free Spirit Rod | Decent for moneymaking until you get higher level rods. |
Gardenkeeper Rod | Good mutation and abilities, dragged down only by its low base luck. |
Duskwire | Really good mutations and stats, though requires specific enchantments to be usable. |
Rod of the Depths | Great mutation and ability, and its overall stats are pretty good. |
Bloomspire: Slumbering Elegance | Pretty good stats, mutations, and ability. |
Vineweaver Rod | Good ability and decent mutation chance. |
Bat Whisperer Rod | Really good passive for moneymaking and decent stats. |
Toxic Spire Rod | Good abilities and really high luck. |
Heaven's Rod | Really high luck and good mutation with a high chance. |
Kraken Rod | Extremely good passive abilities and decent stats overall. |
Lucid Rod | Potentially lucrative passive ability and okay stats. |
Merlin's Staff | Good stats and mutation, but requires skill to use properly. |
Luminescent Oath | Can be really good, but requires perfect catches. |
Cryolash | Good rod and mutations, but low control and hilariously expensive price. |
Pinion's Aria | Great rod with insane stats, though not the most consistent in the hands of some players. |
Bellona's Waraxe | Good passives and unique aesthetic. |
Cerulean Fang Rod | Good passives and overall stats |
Apollo's Sunshot | Really good passive abilities with specific use cases. |
Maelstrom | Okay stats but really good passives. |
Necrotic Rod | A bit inconsistent, but really good once you get used to it. |
Spiritbinder | Decent for completionists due to its passive ability. |
Steampunk Rod | Okay stats and a good unique passive. |
Zeus's Thundermaul | Moderate stats but really good passives. |
Tidemourner | High luck and good passive abilities hampered by its slow lure speed. |
Electric Guitar | Insane stats paired with a boring (but not bad) passive. |
Wind Elemental | Exceptional stats and mutation, but only reaches max efficiency under Windy weather. |
Igneous Rupturer | Decent rod that can be used for consistent catches. |
Noctone | Good moneymaking rod, but its stats could still be better. |
Fallen Snowblade | Really good, but RNG elements and seasonal abilities keep it from being on the top tier. |
Onirifalx | Extremely good stats but potentially inconsistent catching depending on the user. |
Polaris Serenade | Similar to the Astraeus Serenade (although inferior overall), it's got good stats and a sick aesthetic. |
Remembrance | A unique rod with good mutations, but its low control can mess with lesser skilled players. |
Dreambreaker | A good rod that requires night time for peak efficiency. |
Lullaby | While it isn't the best, it has good stats and very useful unique mechanics. |
B Tier - Decent Rods
The rods in this tier aren't bad, but they aren't particularly great. Most of them have pretty average stats or a bunch of negatives to balance out their advantages, while some only become good under very specific conditions.
Rod Name | Reason for Rank |
|---|---|
Christmas Tree Rod | Infinite weight and decent stats, as well as a pretty good mutation. |
Patriot Rod | Incredible stats and mutation, especially for a free rod. Gets outclassed eventually. |
Magnet Rod | Niche rod that's great at that specific niche (catching crates). |
Steady Rod | A decent early game rod due to its high max kg, though it falls off hard in later levels. |
Frog Rod | Pretty good luck stat, but may require enchantments for smoother grinding. |
Fungal Rod | Good early game rod, though its stats make it hard to use. |
Magma Rod | Not bad for early game players, and it lets you fish in Roslit Volcano. |
Nocturnal Rod | It cancels out the time-related debuff for fishes, making it useful for grinding early on. |
Rose Rod | Pretty good event rod due to its stats and abilities. |
Brine-Infused Rod | Decent rod overall, but far from the best. |
Phoenix Rod | Pretty good for early moneymaking, and it looks nice. |
Brick Rod | Incredibly high control balanced out by mediocre lure speed. |
Boom Ball Rod | Really good for what it's normally used for, which is high disturbance and fast catches regardless of value |
Champions Rod | Not bad for its price, but the lack of a mutation drags it down. |
Verdant Shear Rod | Great special ability that grants valuable mutations, though chances could be better. |
Blazebringer Rod | Pretty good for moneymaking. |
Carrot Rod | Decent moneymaker as well, and high base luck. |
Trident Rod | Good stabbing tool and decent mutation. |
Summit Rod | Solid mid-tier rod with varying mutations and good stats. |
Riptide Rod | Pretty good stats and special ability. |
Rainbow Cluster Rod | Good mutation and decent stats, especially with certain enchantments. |
Great Dreamer Rod | Good stats and mutation, but has a relatively low max kg. |
Destiny Rod | Really high luck with a small chance for good mutations. |
The Lost Rod | Decent for skilled players who can consistently get the mutation ability to activate. |
Katana Rod | Pretty good stab ability and decent stats. |
Popsicle Rod | Good mutation, but its stats could be much better. |
Daybreaker Rod | Good but specialized passives. |
Random Rod | Can be really good or hilariously bad. It's truly random! |
Acidgrinder | Niche rod with decent stats and mutation. |
Cornucopia Rod | Good mutation with a low chance, and its other stats are pretty good. |
No-Life Rod | Good ability and high mutation chance, but has better alternatives in its stage. |
Great Rod of Oscar | Decent for XP farming and has a small chance for a good mutation. |
Rod of the Eternal King | Good passives, but not the best in terms of raw stats. |
Rod of the Cosmos | Good mutation and passives, but not the best in terms of stats. |
Rod of the Forgotten Fang | Good mutation, okay passive. |
Shady Rod | Niche use case (S$ farming), but really good at that niche. |
Wicked Fang Rod | Decent stats and passives at any level after acquiring it. |
Ethereal Prism Rod | Good moneymaking rod, but not too special outside of its mutation. |
Rod of the Zenith | Decent rod for high level players, but its low control pulls it down the rankings. |
Evil Pitchfork | Potentially good rod that is too random to be ranked any higher. |
Astralhook Rod | Good for moneymaking, especially in a group. |
Wingkeeper | A pretty good rod, but it falls off a bit during the night. |
Nates Blade | Really good stats, but it has limited mutations. |
Sword of Darkness | Potentially very good overall, but using it has a steep learning curve. |
Fang of the Eclipse | Not a bad rod by any means, but it requires an eclipse for peak efficiency. |
Wingripper | Decent moneymaking rod that becomes painful to use at night. |
C Tier - Average At Best
In C Tier, the rods are far from bad, but they don't really peak high enough to be considered good either. They're completely usable if you don't have anything better, but these rods will get outclassed very easily by other accessible alternatives.
Rod Name | Reason for Rank |
|---|---|
Experimental Rod | Extremely gimmicky and limited, but not bad. |
Gingerbread Rod | Decent stats and mutation, but falls behind the Christmas Tree due to having a weight limit. |
Brother's Rod | Okay stats for when you get it, and the duplicate effect isn't too bad. |
Clover Rod | Incredibly high luck, but it's balanced by having poor control and a very unreliable special mutation chance. |
Firefly Rod | Not a bad early game rod, but may require some enchantments for more reliable farming. |
Precision Rod | Not bad for early high luck setups, but the slow lure speed and lack of special perks drags it down. |
Shamrock Rod | Pretty mid for an event rod. |
Fortune Rod | Better than Lucky Rod, not amazing though. |
Merchant Rod | Only good for its specific niche, which is catching non-limited bait. |
Egg Rod | Not bad for early game players, but it falls off fast. |
Rapid Rod | Decent early game tool, not so useful later on. |
Arctic Rod | Mid rod, but guaranteed to get a 1.5x multiplier. |
Scurvy Rod | Fine for grinding money due to its Greedy mutation. |
Crystalized Rod | Serviceable for lower level players, but may require enchantments later on. |
Depthseeker Rod | Mid rod that's not too exciting. |
Lobster Rod | Pretty good rod on paper, but hard to acquire early. |
Wildflower Rod | Okay rod dragged down by its low max kg. |
Midas Rod | Decent moneymaking rod, but stats make it a bit clunky to use. |
Aurora Rod | Good mutation, but its stats are too inconsistent. |
Ice Warpers Rod | Not necessarily bad, but severely outclassed by others in its price range and stage. |
Tidal Wave Rod | Pretty okay, but it's only special for its event-themed mutations. |
Coral Rod | Good stats with a subpar mutation. |
Part | Can be good with mastery, but mainly a gimmick rod. |
Seasons Rod | Its stats are not too bad, but not great either. |
Peppermint Rod | Great special mutation and lure speed, but suboptimal stats elsewhere. |
Volcanic Rod | Not bad, but gets easily outclassed for when you get it. |
Wisdom Rod | Purely for XP grinding. |
Fallen Rod | Not necessarily bad, but it has very niche uses due to its special effect. |
Treasure Rod | Decent moneymaking tool, but outclassed by others in the same stage. |
Azure of Lagoon | Decent rod overall, but the mutation isn't the best. |
Sweet Stinger | Decent stats, but not the most exciting in its stage. |
Sunken Rod | It isn't bad, but it has a very specific use case (Treasure maps). |
Anchor n' Chain | Awful lure speed, but niche uses. |
Poseidon Rod | It's fine, but it could be way better for its price and stage. |
Abyssal Specter Rod | Decent passive ability and mutation, but mediocre stats outside of infinite max kg. |
Zeus Rod | Decent rod with an inconsistent passive ability. |
Toxinburst Rod | Niche use cases, awful for grinding/moneymaking. |
Bunnybloom Caster | Decent rod, but requires Spring season to be great. |
Challenger's Rod | Good for XP farming with the Clever enchantment, but not so special on its own. |
Celestial Rod | Decent rod for grinding, but far from the best. |
Vinefang Rod | Good early on, but falls off hard as you progress. |
Thalassar's Ruin | An okay rod with a powerful mutation that's only bogged down by debuffs. |
Eardrum | It essentially guarantees a relatively low value mutation while also muddying your rates with the potential log catches. |
D Tier - Very Meh
The rods in this tier generally aren't considered good, but they sometimes shine in very specific use cases. For example, the Training Rod is complete garbage 99% of the time, but if you're looking to get trash items on purpose for certain quests, it'll guarantee that for you.
Rod Name | Reason for Rank |
|---|---|
Cinder Block Rod | Incredibly niche rod with an extremely slow lure speed that makes the initial catching phase last almost a minute long by default. |
Astral Rod | Suboptimal stats. Cool design, though. |
Event Horizon Rod | Same as the Astral Rod. |
Training Rod | Has niche uses with its negative luck stat, but otherwise useless. |
Demon Slayer | Mainly used as a cosmetic rather than a serious grinding tool. |
Stone Hammer | Has niche uses with its high Disturbance stat, but otherwise meh. |
Brick Built Rod | Decent luck and unique mutation, though its stats aren't particularly great. |
Antler Rod | Decent mutation, but its stats are basic. |
Rod of Time | Purely used for EXP, and there are better alternatives for that. |
Lucky Rod | Early game rod that falls off fast. |
Fast Rod | Decent for early game progression only. |
Firework Rod | Not great for how hard it is to get. |
Haunted Rod | Poor stats and mutation chances. |
Splitbranch Twig | Only good with certain enchantments, otherwise it's not an ideal rod for grinding. |
New Years Rod | Stats aren't particularly good, but it's serviceable if you have no better rods. |
Avalanche Rod | Outclassed by other rods that take similar effort to get. |
Reinforced Rod | Nothing special. Mainly usable for fishing in certain restricted areas. |
Paper Fan Rod | Only special cause it's an event rod. Meh overall. |
Resourceful Rod | It's okay if you have a lot of bait to burn through. |
Krampus's Rod | It's meh, despite the unique ability. |
Test Rod | Not particularly good, but usable. |
Auric Rod | Guaranteed mutation, but its base stats are awful. |
Scarlet Spincaster Rod | There are much better options by the time you can get it. |
Nico's Yarncaster | Not the worst rod out there, but there are better alternatives despite its unique ability/pet. |
Leprechaun Line | Extremely high luck, but lackluster everywhere else. |
Bloomspire: Twisted Toxins | Incredibly niche use cases. |
Leviathan's Fang Rod | Good for catching Scylla, but not ideal anywhere else. |
Tempest Rod | Decent stats, but heavily outclassed in the same stage nowadays. |
Tranquility Rod | Cool gimmick, but not ideal for general gameplay/grinding. |
F Tier - Garbage or Noob Rods
F Tier rods are those that are either starter rods or complete trash when compared to all the others in the higher tiers. Avoid using these once you've progressed past the first few hours of gameplay, as they are wildly inefficient for grinding.
Rod Name | Reason for Rank |
|---|---|
Flimsy Rod | It's the rod everyone starts with and it does literally nothing special. |
Stone Rod | Negative lure speed and low overall stats. It's only useful for catching heavy fish early on. |
Carbon Rod | It's a starter rod that you quickly grow out of. |
Plastic Rod | Easily skippable starter rod. |
Smurf Rod | Limited, and also pretty meh perks. |
Buddy Bond Rod | Suboptimal stats, even with the bonus. |
Candy Cane Rod | Poor stats, though the small chance to get the Festive mutation is nice. |
North-Star Rod | No special ability and poor stats. |
Fixer's Rod | Hardly exciting stats and mutation despite being a limited item. |
Mission Specialist's Rod | Same as the Fixer's Rod. |
Paleontologist's Rod | Same as the Fixer's Rod. |
Adventurer's Rod | Basically the Flimsy Rod of the second sea. |
Upside-Down Rod | Gimmick item. |
Microphone Rod | Terribly low max kg and mutation chance. |
Long Rod | Niche utility tool. |
Relic Rod | Horrible control and no mutations. |
Decayed Rod | Negative perks all around. |
Friendly Rod | Horrible for how hard it is to get. |
Bloomspire | Useless in this state. |
Rod of the Exalted One | Only really useful for catching Exalted Relics. |
Bone Blade | Terrible stats and completely outclassed by its peers. |
Cinderstring | Not great for when you can get it. Mainly for collectors/aesthetics. |
Dave Rod | Gimmick item, though it's admittedly a really funny gimmick. |
