Whether you're trying to survive or just want to spice up your camp, there are multiple NPCs in 99 Nights in the Forest that can help you gain a quick advantage in exchange for certain resources. The Pelt Trader and Furniture Trader are two such NPCs, so how exactly do they work?

The Pelt Trader

As the name suggests, the Pelt Trader exchanges weapons and tools for animal pelts. All you have to do is hand him whatever item he's looking for, and then you'll be presented with a set of random items to choose from.

He's guaranteed to show up on the second day, and he'll return every few days after that.

Tools of the Trade

The Pelt Trader's wares will increase in quality for each successful trade. He'll start off by requesting a Bunny Foot, and he'll reward you with some valuable early game tools and weapons for it.

He'll ask for increasingly rarer pelts after each trade, and then he'll stop interacting with you once you've done the bear pelt exchange.

Here's a list of pelts he'll want from you in the order that he asks for them, as well as the possible items that he will offer:

Pelt

Possible Rewards

Bunny Foot

Old Flashlight, Good Axe, Good Sack

Wolf Pelt

Leather Body, Good Axe, Good Sack, Spear, Revolver

Alpha Wolf Pelt

Strong Flashlight, Rifle, Giant Sack, Good Sack, Old Flashlight

Bear Pelt

Strong Flashlight, Strong Axe, Iron Body

How Trading Works Per Player

You get to pick one thing among the items that he offers you for each pelt, and it's possible to be offered stuff that you already have. Early on, it's highly recommended to hunt for a Bunny Foot and Wolf Pelt ASAP to get those early trades out.

It's also worth noting that each player gets unique trades. Even if you've already given him a bear pelt, another player in your team can still interact with him if they haven't fulfilled all requests.

The Furniture Trader

The Furniture Trader is an NPC that can randomly show up every few days, and his arrival is signaled by the sound of a horse walking. He appears at random parts of the map, and he will continue walking around with his horse carriage until a player trades with him.

If you have a map built at the camp, you can pull it up to find his location. His icon looks like this:

Make sure to periodically check your map while making your way to his location. Since he is constantly on the move, he may not be where you initially saw his icon if you were far away.

Once you find the Furniture Trader, simply approach and talk to him to see his wares. You can also kill his horse for extra food, and it'll respawn the next time he shows up.

Buying Furniture

In order to purchase from the Furniture Trader, you'll need Mossy Coins. You can find stacks of these scattered all around the map, and they occasionally spawn on top of actual loot. Cultists drop them on death as well.

The Furniture Shop has a rotating stock, which means that he'll have a different set of items to sell each time he spawns into the game. Anything you purchase will go straight to your inventory and can be placed anywhere within the camp's boundaries.

You can use these items to create walls or platforms to use as vantage points. Alternatively, just buy stuff to decorate your base.

This is also where you'll find any event-exclusive furniture that you've earned from limited-time challenges. They will show up under "Inventory" on the top right part of the shop menu.

Prices

The prices vary based on the furniture's rarity, with some items going for as high as 20 Mossy Coins each. Common items are the cheapest at just 5 each.

Event items can fall under varying rarities as well. For example, a regular snowman costs 10 Mossy Coins, while this icy throne can be bought for just 5:
