Whale Sharks in Fisch are highly coveted for their rarity and value, and trying to get one can be a bit confusing. In this guide, we'll be going over everything you need to know in order to catch one of these and bring you one step closer to completing your Bestiary!
How to Find a Whale Shark
To catch Whale Sharks, you'll first need to wait for a Shark Hunt to spawn in your current server. These have a relatively small (roughly 9%) chance to replace an abundance event, which spawns at varying times every hour.
Once one of these Shark Hunts spawns, you'll hear a loud audio cue accompanied by a text notification that tells you where it can be found. This can be anywhere in the first sea, so you'll just have to hang around until one appears.
It should be noted that there are three Mythical Sharks that can spawn, including the Whale Shark, so you're not always guaranteed to get the one you want whenever a hunt starts. Here's what the text notification for Shark Hunts looks like, as well as its location marker at sea:

How to Catch a Whale Shark
Whale Sharks can be caught just like any other fish, and all you need to do is head to wherever it spawned on the map. One important thing to consider is that technically, only one person can catch it. As soon as the Whale Shark (or any other shark) has been caught, it will disappear from the map.
There is an unintended mechanic where multiple people can get it if they happened to reel in the shark at the same time, but it's typically first come, first served. Multiple sharks can be present in a single server, so you don't have to rush towards an existing shark spawn to get the next one to spawn.
Simply sail over to where the shark is located and start fishing. Pump up your luck as high as possible to get the best chance at catching it as soon as you arrive!

Server Hopping Tip
One tactic that shark hunters use is to hop servers until they find the shark they desire. Sort the servers in ascending order and join one that has between 1-2 players in it. These are likely to have sharks that have already spawned, and the other players may be AFK or uninterested in catching it.
Since other players may be thinking of using this same tactic, it's recommended to pick one that isn't at the very bottom of the list, as that's what others are likely to be clicking on. Click "Load More" and pick one of the options that it reveals instead, like so:

For context, below is what that server above looked like when I joined it. It already had a Whale Shark at sea, and there are only 3 other players in the server!
