The Tryhard Rod is one of the best rods in Fisch, but it also lives up to its name by being both incredibly hard to use and extremely challenging to acquire. In this guide, we will show you everything you need to know about it, including how to get it and how to make it usable.

You must be at least level 999 to start the questline!

Where to Find the Tryhard Rod NPC

To start the Tryhard Rod's questline, head to Roslit Bay and climb up the volcano. After doing some parkour and getting past the area where you can buy Meteor Totems, turn to the right and you'll see an NPC named RoRed.

Speak with him to start the Tryhard Rod questline.

Quest #1 - The True Tryhard (Part 1)

First up, your objective will be to Perfect Catch 10 fish in a row using the Flimsy Rod. This is easier said than done, so here are a few things to keep in mind to make this easier:

  • Use high resilience bait, like Neuro Slugs or even Garbage.
  • Enchant your Flimsy Rod with Herculean or Unbreakable for more control
  • Aim for weak fish by fishing at low level areas

If you mess up even once before you make it to 10 Perfect Catches, you'll have to start from zero!

Return to RoRed when you're done to start the next quest.

Quest #2 - The True Tryhard (Part 2)

Next up, he'll ask you to Perfect Catch 25 fish in a row with the Flimsy Rod, starting with a Perfect Cast. To clarify, you have to score a Perfect Cast for all 25 Perfect Catches in a row.

Here are some tips for this part:

  • Take your time when casting, especially if the bar is moving too fast.
  • Keep using high resilience bait to boost your odds of success
  • Enchant the Flimsy Rod with Controlled to keep control high while leaving max weight low
  • If you're swimming in Sovereign Relics, Steady Crown or Magnitude Might will help a lot here.

If you manage to clear this part of the quest chain, return to RoRed for your final challenge.

Quest #3 - The True Tryhard (Part 3)

For your final test, RoRed significantly ramps up the challenge by asking you to catch 1 Megalodon with a Hasty Tryhard Flimsy Rod while using Tryhard Worm bait.

Go and re-enchant your Flimsy Rod with Enchant Relics and Cosmic Relics until you get the Hasty Tryhard combination. When you're ready, set out for the Ancient Isle and wait for a Megalodon Hunt to start (or use a Megalodon Hunt Totem).

RoRed will provide you with 100 Tryhard Worm bait. If you somehow run out of it, you can return to RoRed for another 100.

With the Tryhard Worm, attracting the Megalodon itself shouldn't be hard. Since it grants a decent amount of resilience, the catching minigame should be surprisingly easy but incredibly slow due to the low base progress.

Since the goal is to merely catch it, take your time and don't worry about getting it perfect.

If you have one, equip the Relic Construct as it's one of the best companions in the game. If fed with an Exalted Relic, you will have 10% more resilience, which will help a lot with the Megalodon.

Once you're done, return to RoRed one last time to complete the quest and receive the following rewards:

  • The Tryhard Rod
  • An Elite Chair boat
  • Tryhard Chroma skin

How to Use the Tryhard Rod

Before you go, it's important to note that the Tryhard Rod has one massive drawback that you must fix before you can actually use it.

While it has extremely high speed and luck, it has negative control, which makes it impossible to fish with until you get specific enchantments. At the very least, you must have Unbreakable or Controlled to make it usable.

If you have the resources for them, Herculean or Magnitude Might will also do wonders for this rod. Without any of these enchantments, you cannot catch anything as the bar won't even be visible in the fishing minigame. This is not a bug!
